This book presents an empirical exploration of peacebuilding, focusing on how professional peaceworkers define and work toward peace in different regions. Based on approximately 200 interviews, it examines the operational visions of peace held by: • Dutch military officers • Diplomats • Civil society peace workers (Netherlands, Lebanon, Mindanao - Philippines) The study challenges the liberal peace consensus by demonstrating that peace is understood and pursued differently depending on professional, geographical, and cultural contexts. The book identifies four dimensions of peace, using case studies from Lebanon and the Philippines to contrast Western and non-Western approaches to peacebuilding. Chapter Highlights: ✔ Military Perspectives – Examines how peace is conceptualized by military personnel. ✔ Diplomatic Approaches – Explores peace as a form of governance. ✔ Civil Society Engagement – Analyzes Dutch, Lebanese, and Filipino civil society peace efforts. ✔ Regional Case Studies – Investigates peace in Lebanon and Mindanao through justice, harmony, and mental well-being.
