This chapter investigates how moderate Muslim media platforms in Indonesia—NU Online, Islami.co, and IBTimes.id—combat the spread of online Islamic extremism. It situates the shift from violent extremism (bombings, suicide attacks) to non-violent radical strategies (digital propaganda, community infiltration) and highlights how extremist groups use the Internet to disseminate intolerant ideologies. The study underscores the challenges moderate Muslim websites face, including limited funding and weak engagement with urban youth, which reduce their overall effectiveness in countering extremist narratives. Importantly, it emphasizes that Indonesian youth often turn to online sources for religious knowledge, where extremist platforms are disproportionately influential.
