This report presents the proceedings and key outcomes of the first strategic workshop on the rehabilitation and de-radicalization of militants and extremists, jointly organized by the FATA Secretariat Capacity Building Project and the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR). The workshop convened experts, policymakers, psychologists, and security officials to discuss frameworks for counter-radicalization, reintegration of former militants, and the role of communities, education, and religious institutions in promoting sustainable peace in post-conflict regions of Pakistan. The sessions focused on international best practices, case studies from Southeast Asia (notably Singapore and Indonesia), and the importance of psychosocial interventions, vocational training, and faith-based rehabilitation programs tailored to local contexts. The report provides policy recommendations aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s national strategy against violent extremism and fostering a whole-of-society approach to peacebuilding and rehabilitation.
